Policy Dialogue
The goods package - Is the EU on the right track?

EVENT
Thursday, 08 February 2018

The single market is one of the corner stones of European integration. But 25 years after its establishment, it still remains unfinished. Completing the internal market is one of the Commission’s priorities, and as part of its Single Market Strategy, it tabled two new legislative proposals in December 2017 to make it easier for companies, especially SMEs, to sell their products across Europe, and to strengthen controls by national authorities and customs officers to prevent unsafe products from being sold to European consumers. At this Policy Dialogue, a panel of experts discussed the Commission’s new proposal on goods in the single market, and explored whether it was on the right track in terms of reinforcing the principle of mutual recognition and improving compliance and enforcement. The debate was moderated by Malcolm Harbour, Senior Adviser, European Policy Centre and chairman of the EPC Single Market Roundtable.

Speakers included: Antti Peltomäki, Deputy Director General, DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, European Commission, Monica Galeote, Senior Policy Adviser, IKEA, Hanane Taidi, Director General, Director General International Federation of Inspection Agencies, Stephen Russel, Secretary-General ANEC.
