Research for REGI Committee - EU lagging regions: state of play and future challenges
Marta Pilati, together with EPC Senior Adviser on regional policy and innovation and industrial growth Alison Hunter, conducted a study for the REGI Committee of the European Parliament on lagging regions. Their study proposes a revised typology to identify those regions that are most vulnerable and are most likely to lag behind in the ongoing economic, digital, and green transitions. It also explores the engagement of lagging regions in EU policies, including cohesion policy, and puts forward some recommendations on to improve support for them at the EU level.
