Culture and Conflict – Healing Syria’s wounds

1 June 2015

‘Queens of Syria’ is a documentary film that details the lives of Syrian women refugees creating their own ver-sion of Euripides’ play ‘Trojan Women’, which helps them to cope with their own horrific experiences during the Syrian war. The screening of the film was part of a weeklong exhibition ‘Syria: Third Space’, organised by the British Council in cooperation with the European Parliament and the European Policy Centre. At this screening and debate, the panellists, including Yasmin Fedda, the director of the film, talked about how culture and the arts can have a positive effect on communities who have suffered – or are still suffering – from war, and even contribute to the reconciliation and healing process.
