On 19 June, EU leaders will hold a virtual summit to discuss inter alia their first reactions to the European Commission’s proposals for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and Next Generation EU, the EU’s recovery package proposed on 27 May. While it is too early to expect a final agreement, there are hopes that a ‘landing zone’ can be identified.
This online Policy Briefing will review the Summit outcomes, the respective national positions, the likely shape of an agreement and the timing. What are the details of the Commission’s proposals, how likely are these to be aligned with national positions? How soon can investment be mobilised in 2020? How is the recovery package linked to the MFF and what changes to the MFF can we expect? Are there any lessons learnt from this crisis? Director General Koopman will shed light on these and other questions in conversation with Marta Pilati, EPC Policy Analyst.
