We are delighted that
Heather Grabbe will join EPC Director of Studies Janis A. Emmanouilidis and share their analysis about the state of populism and the rule of law, as well as future prospects in the light of the COVID-19 crisis. How have populists in and outside Europe responded to the crisis? Have they profited from the negative fall-out from the crisis or has the political mainstream in most EU countries been able to demonstrate its ability to deal with a complex set of multiple challenges? Has the corona virus crisis (further) undermined the rule of law and what can the EU27 do to counter the increasing pressures on fundamental principles and basic rights in a number of member states? Will the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and the Recovery Plan be subject to a higher level of conditionality regarding the rule of law or will the need to reach consensus on the MFF at the end of the day undermine this objective?
