While EU companies are facing growing competition from emerging markets, it is crucial to rethink the role of state aid policies with a view to reinforcing the industrial base and competitiveness of European industry vis-à-vis the rest of the world. It is essential for the EU to strengthen the competitiveness of its industry while maintaining its core values of internal competition and non-discrimination among EU companies, and to create an industrial eco-system where small and large companies can work together.
