The European Union’s efforts to create a comprehensive framework for sustainable investments, as a part of the European Green Deal, have proven to be a complex exercise. The EU’s aim of providing companies and investors with tools and incentives to contribute to the transition to a sustainable, climate-neutral economy has been well received. However, how this ambition will be achieved in practice remains to be fully defined. As the EU’s work on its sustainable finance agenda continues, and in response to the new recovery context, the European Commission plans to further boost these efforts by renewing its sustainable finance strategy in July this year.

This Policy Dialogue will consider the state of play on the EU’s sustainable finance agenda, progress so far, as well as the hopes and prospects for the way forward, including for the renewed sustainable finance strategy.
