The European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are often regarded as two of the more successful regional organisations in the world. With relations dating back to 1972, ASEAN and the EU have forged an important multifaceted relationship which includes not only trade, investments and business, but also increasing conversations on geopolitical challenges, security and health. In that context, the recently published book “ASEAN-EU Partnership: The Untold Story” by Amb. Tommy Koh and Dr. Yeo Lay Hwee shines a light on this region-to-region relationship and describes the many areas in which ASEAN and the EU have both converging and diverging interests, looking also at the future and possible areas of cooperation.

This on-line Policy Dialogue will focus on how EU-ASEAN relationship can benefit regions in the recovery from the health and economic crises as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and how the EU and ASEAN can work together to bolster multilateral cooperation in areas such as health, climate change, trade and cyber-security.
