The COVID-19 pandemic is having a devastating impact on every aspect of our lives and putting a strain on every sector of the society and the economy. The health sector is one of the hardest hit sectors and is in the frontline in the fight against the virus, from hospitals, health systems and workers, to research laboratories and pharmaceutical companies. How has the pharmaceutical industry been affected by the COVID-19 crisis and what is its role in addressing this public health emergency? What measures have been put in place to combat the virus and are they sufficient? With shortages of medical supplies, can Europe build up a strategic autonomy in the pharmaceutical sector? And will the ongoing crisis facilitate the emergence of a ‘Europe of Health’? This online policy dialogue will shed light on these and other questions while reflecting on the industrial vision post-coronavirus and the role of the pharmaceutical industry. The discussion will be moderated by Claire Dhéret, Head of the EPC Social Europe and Well-being Programme.
