The European Policy Centre (EPC) is pleased to announce that Georg Riekeles has joined the organisation as an Associate Director.

Following the appointments of Ricardo Borges de Castro and Aileen McLeod earlier this year, Georg Riekeles is the third Associate Director to join the EPC’s management team. Besides helping to set out the organisation’s strategic direction, he will focus on the debate on the future of the European Union and EU governance and decision-making.

“I am excited to join the great team at the European Policy Centre. Think tanks like the EPC are crucial in providing EU decision-makers with independent foresight and evidence-based analysis and advice. The pandemic has shown how critical a strategic grip and the right practical steps have become for the EU in a challenging geopolitical environment,” said Riekeles.

Before joining the EPC, Riekeles served as diplomatic adviser to Brexit chief negotiator Michel Barnier, in charge of interinstitutional affairs during the withdrawal negotiations, and strategy and communications during the negotiations on the future EU–UK relationship. Previously, Riekeles was an adviser for security and defence at the European Political Strategy Centre (EPSC), the European Commission’s in-house think tank.

“Georg’s experience and expertise in a wide range of policy areas and his knack for applying strategic insight in a high-pressure environment will make him a great addition to the team,” stated Chief Executive Fabian Zuleeg.
