This first online EPC Update after the summer break will cover three major issues. We will start with an analysis of how the proposed structure and composition of the new Commission reflect the political priorities defined by President-elect Ursula von der Leyen and consider the way ahead, including the prospects for Commissioners’ upcoming hearings in the European Parliament. In addition, we will examine the implications of the regional elections in Germany for European policymaking in Berlin and Brussels, and the impact of political developments in France. Finally, we will discuss the reactions and expectations linked to the Draghi report on competitiveness and its potential impact on the EU’s political agenda.
Participation is open to EPC members only, the media and EU officials.

The European Politics and Institutions Programme covers the EU’s institutional architecture, governance and policymaking to ensure that it can move forward and respond to the challenges of the 21st century democratically and effectively. It also monitors and analyses political developments at the EU level and in the member states, discussing the key questions of how to involve European citizens in the discussions over the Union’s future and how to win their support for European integration. The Programme has a special focus on enlargement policy towards the Western Balkans, questions of EU institutional reform and illiberal trends in European democracies.
