EVENT
As the war continues, Ukraine has become the most heavily mined country in the world, with around 140,000 km² of land contaminated by buried explosives. This is both a humanitarian emergency and a major obstacle to recovery. It leaves millions of civilians at risk, paralyses vital agricultural land and risks slowing the return of economic life.
International support has been substantial, but resources can be used more effectively. Better donor coordination, faster funding flows to field operations and stronger partnerships with Ukrainian operators could scale life-saving work and capitalise on Ukraine’s unique field experience as a major global export opportunity. Ukraine’s private sector also has a role to play, particularly through cost-effective, home-grown technical innovations such as robotic platforms.
This discussion will examine how to move from emergency demining towards a nationwide recovery effort covering forests, water bodies and infrastructure. Experts will explore how to align international priorities with the practical expertise of Ukrainian sappers, fostering a direct technical dialogue to improve value for money and operational speed. This dialogue will also help synchronise support and resources ahead of the 2026 Ukraine Mine Action Conference in Brussels.
This event welcomes the participation of EPC member organisations, EU institutions and media.
