EVENT
On 3 - 4 October 2025, Czechia goes to the polls for a parliamentary election. The current centre-right governing coalition under Petr Fiala is trailing former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš’s far right ANO party, which sits with the Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament. The outcome could reshape Czechia’s role in Europe at a time of heightened geopolitical and economic pressures.
The stakes go well beyond Prague. A Babiš comeback could weaken EU unity in the European Council on critical issues such as continued support to Ukraine, negotiations on the budget and enlargement, the safeguarding of democratic resilience and the rule of law in Czechia with wider implications for EU-wide democratic governance; and the possible revival of the Visegrád Group as a blocking force in EU policymaking.
This event is for everyone who wants to understand the implications of these elections, and is essential for anticipating coalition dynamics in Brussels and beyond.
Participation is open to EPC members only, the media, and EU officials
