One month before Hungary is set to vote in the parliamentary elections on 12 April, Péter Magyar’s Tisza party has emerged as a major challenger to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz. This development raises key questions: Could this election bring an end to Orbán’s 16-year hold on power? If so, what would Magyar’s promise of a “regime change” entail – and what does the Tisza’s party stand for in practice?
This online Policy Dialogue will examine what is at stake in the Hungarian elections and the key issues shaping the campaign. It will assess whether a government led by Péter Magyar would represent substantive political transformation, and how the EU should prepare for both continuity and change.
Participation is open to EPC members, media, and EU officials.
