Denial of Citizenship - A Challenge to Human Security

6 April 2005

This Issue Paper presents the findings of an Expert Meeting on the denial of citizenship, which was highlighted in the Human Security (Ogata) Report, presented to the United Nations. In his contribution to this Issue Paper, Constantin Sokoloff, emphasises the need for an integrated approach to the issue of citizenship denial. Adopting a human security angle in policy making could serve as a comprehensive working instrument, encompassing root causes as well as the consequences of lack of nationality of large population groups.
