EU-India Relations

10 June 2005
Fraser Cameron (Senior Adviser to EPC on international programmes)

This Issue Paper reflects on the state of EU-India relations following an EU-India Journalists' conference at the end of May, co-organised by the EPC. Participants at this meeting agreed that there was tremendous potential in EU-India relations, especially if both sides were committed to developing a true ‘strategic partnership.’ The proposed Commission Action Plan and the EU-India Summit scheduled for September should provide a fresh impetus toward deepening relations between the two sides. This paper also features a broad overview of EU-India relations in the past, with a focus on politics, trade, social and cultural ties.
