Europe in the World

ASEM: from words to action?

28 September 2010
Ger-bart Egberts (External authors), Shada Islam (Director Europe & Geopolitics, Friends of Europe) and Cher Suet-yi Lai (External authors)

Asian and European Union leaders attending the eighth ASEM meeting in Brussels on 4-5 October must send a strong message of solidarity to boost global recovery and economic growth says this Policy Brief by Shada Islam, Ger-bart Egberts and Cher Suet-yi Lai. The EU can use the 48-nation meeting to inject much-needed dynamism into its relations with Asia. While they may bicker over climate-change targets, trade and human rights, the two regions need and depend on each other. Asia and Europe must not drift apart.
