Europe has witnessed a variety of large-scale crises and disasters in recent years, with the current H1N1 influenza outbreak demonstrating yet again the need for the EU to carefully consider its role in enhancing the continent’s capacity to deal with such crises. This Policy Brief by Arjen Boin, Magnus Ekengren, Sara Myrdal and Mark Rhinard offers a series of recommendations for the next European Commission to lead the EU towards playing a clear, value-added role in coordinating transboundary crisis management.
