An independence foretold - and a foregone conclusion

Although Kosovo’s declaration of independence came as no surprise, it is making waves across the region, and potentially beyond, and things may get worse before they get better, warns this Commentary by Antonio Missiroli. Avoiding this will require a combination of wisdom and decisiveness on the part of the Union: its door must be left open to Serbia and it must inject new impetus into its ‘soft’ power in the Balkan region by living up to past promises.
