NATO and the EU: what a difference a decade makes

By December 2009, new teams will be in charge of Europe’s security and relations between the two key regional organisations dealing with it. As NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer prepares to hand over to former Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana announces he will not seek another term, this Commentary by Antonio Missiroli assesses the role of both organisations over the last decade and argues they can learn a lot from one another.
