Digitalisation for the green transition: Empowering community action

Project

As the urgency to accelerate the green transition grows, citizens are asked to play a more active and central role. Their contribution can bring multiple benefits to the process, from providing first-hand insights to tackle specific policy trade-offs to encouraging community action. Citizens’ participation also helps secure people’s buy-in and increase the legitimacy of the whole process.

Digital tools, such as apps, online platforms, and artificial intelligence, can facilitate bottom-up engagement and enable communities to contribute to decision-making via different means of participatory democracy actively.

In this context, the project “Digitalisation for the green transition: Empowering community action” aims to:

  1. Consider the opportunities and challenges in using data and digital solutions to empower community action for the green transition.
  2. Discuss how the EU’s policy and financial framework can support these efforts.
