Security sector reform is essential in post-conflict countries in the Balkans to achieve sustainable peace, argues EPC analyst Lucia Montanaro-Jankovski in this Policy Brief. It examines the progress made so far, the challenges which lie ahead and the EU’s role in the process, and underlines the need for a coherent and coordinated approach both within the Union and with other international organisations, including the United Nations and NATO, to provide much-needed support to the region.
