Albania will head to the polls on 11 May 2025, in what is widely seen as a decisive moment for the country's democratic future and its path towards EU membership. The election takes place just months after the start of formal EU accession negotiations in October 2024, with the aim to conclude talks by 2027. Amid a polarised political environment, the ruling Socialist Party seeks an unprecedented fourth mandate. Meanwhile, concerns about democratic backsliding, political entrenchment, and the misuse of state resources continue to cast a shadow over the electoral process.
This EPC online Election Monitor will discuss the elections’ results and their implications for the future of Albania and the Balkans, as well as for their EU path.
Participation is open to EPC members only, the media, and EU officials
