This online policy dialogue, held on 3 November 2020, analysed the consequences of the Turkish Cypriot leadership election and the possible scenarios for a solution to the Cyprus problem. The discussion focused on Turkey’s role in the region and examined the challenges and opportunities for reunification. Ahmet Sözen, Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the Eastern Mediterranean University, gave a summary of recent developments and emphasized the importance of engagement. Anna Koukkides-Procopiou, Senior Fellow in the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs at the University of Nicosia, presented the Greek Cypriot perspective highlighting the multiple dimensions of the issue. James Ker-Lindsay, Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics, outlined the obstacles to finding a solution, but emphasized the need to seize the current opportunity.
