EVENT
1 November marks one year since the collapse of the Novi Sad train station canopy. The tragedy sparked a wave of student-led anti-government protests across Serbia – the largest mobilisation in the country’s recent history. Over the past 12 months, Serbia’s deep political crisis has intensified, and the legitimacy of the regime put into question. The demonstrations were met with heightened repression and an aggressive smear campaign targeting protesters, civil society, NGOs and independent journalists.
This in-person Policy Dialogue will take stock of developments in Serbia and the EU’s response over the past year. The event will open with a presentation of new polling data from the Centre for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA) in Serbia. A discussion will follow, exploring how Serbia can move towards democratisation and how the EU can best support that process.
Participation is open to EPC members, the media, and EU officials.
