Gunter Pauli, in ‘Framework for a new European economy’ (chapter 5) calls for a new approach to create a sustainable, competitive European economy. In the next politico-institutional cycle, the EU institutions should collaborate and take the lead in developing a framework that will allow businesses and entrepreneurs to make the switch from traditional modes of economic development, based on the endless quest for cost reduction and ever-higher economies of scale, to a more sustainable, environmentally-friendly system.
