Frank Mc Namara is a Policy Analyst in the European Migration and Diversity Programme.

Frank graduated with an Arts degree and a Law degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway (B.A. and LL.B) and with a Master of Law in European Law (LL.M) from the University of Edinburgh. He also holds a Master of Comparative, European and International Legal Studies degree (LL.M) from the European University Institute (EUI), Florence.

Frank previously interned in the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner (Ireland) and worked as a Presenting Officer in the Refugee Appeals Tribunal (Ireland). He has also worked in the European Commission (DG Migration and Home Affairs), first as a Stagiaire and later as an Intérimaire.

While at the EUI, Frank also worked as a Research Assistant in the Migration Policy Centre within the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. In the Migration Policy Centre, Frank worked on two projects – Know Reset, which studied refugee resettlement, and Contention, which considered judicial control of pre-removal detention of third-country nationals based on the EU Return Directive.

Frank defended his PhD at the EUI in 2017. That research considered the impact of externalisation and privatisation on State responsibility for violations of the fundamental rights of migrants.
