Enhancing the role of science in the decision-making of the European Union

Science is a key factor in ensuring good quality legislative and regulatory decisions. It plays an essential role in fulfilling the goals set by the Lisbon Agenda. In this Working Paper, Bruce Ballantine, EPC Programme Executive and Rapporteur of the EPC Risk Forum, examines how science can best be used by EU institutions responsible for risk management. The paper makes a number of concrete short- and long-term recommendations for enhancing the role of science in EU decision-making.
