This high-level roundtable, organised in the framework of the Mercator Dialogue on Asylum and Migration (MEDAM) project, reflected on lessons learned and ways forward for the EU-Turkey partnership on migration, in the light of the New Pact’s new emphasis on tailor-made partnerships with non-EU countries.

The roundtable also presented an opportunity discuss the key findings of the 2021 MEDAM Assessment Report on EU-Turkey migration cooperation with experts from the European Commission, academia and civil society. The discussion focused on possible avenues for promoting the social cohesion and integration of refugees in Turkey, as well as the prospects for strengthened resettlement and responsibility-sharing by EU actors in the framework of EU-Turkey cooperation. The broader framework of EU-Turkey migration cooperation including the impact and outcomes of the 2016 EU-Turkey Statement was also considered.
