In the last plenary of the legislature, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the Reform and Growth Facility for the Western Balkans. The plan, presented last autumn by the European Commission, aims to boost the region’s economic growth and incentivise the implementation of EU-related reforms, ultimately reinvigorating the Western Balkans’ EU accession path. It foresees up to €6 billion of new funding (around €2 billion in grants and €4 billion in loans), provided the aspirants deliver on agreed reforms.
What is the political significance of the Growth Plan in the region? How will it help the Western Balkans’ development and convergence with the member states? Can it be a catalyst for EU reforms? What more can the Union do to support the aspirants’ efforts before accession? The WB6 Ambassadors in Brussels will address these and other related issues at this in-person Policy Dialogue held before the June 2024 European elections to usher in a new politico-institutional cycle in the Union.
